Tech Events Simplified — TechCrunch Disrupt 2015
Most of Tech events are now too cluttered! They have several parallel tracks in different rooms, up to 6 rooms/halls for some! Isn’t this too much?
In many events, where there are many tracks in parallel, I find myself lost. I miss a great session here or there, specially when there are delays in panels or when a speaker takes longer than his/her time.
Some event organizers tell me that the tech industry is now so big and not all people would not be interested in all topics. I completely agree, that’s why there should be separate events for different topics. So for example, there could be events for HealthTech, FinTech, CommerceTech, BigData, Games, etc.
I am attending TC Disrupt today in San Francisco, and although it’s a general events that includes all startups, but I am happy that it’s simple and straight forward. There is only one main stage, only one main track, where all the action happens.
Outside the stage, in the Startup Alley, it’s a crazy world. But it’s up to you, the attendee, to skip some of the sessions/talks/panels and look around or talk to founders at their booths. The booths are classified as: eCommerce, VR, FinTech, Sports, etc… which is really helpful if you’re interested in one or two industries.
For me, battlefield startups will be presenting on stage anyway and I would watch that, so I decided whenever there is a session that I am less interested in, I would go and chat with startups that are not presenting.
But because the companies are more than what a person can handle, while I am attending a session, I browse through the startups profiles and decide who to visit.
For us at ArzanVC we already started to invest in USA and Europe in addition to the MENA region. So we’re here at TC Disrupt to learn more about international trends, and to identify innovative Series A and Pre-Series A startups from all over the world to participate in their current rounds as follow investors.
