Have You Heard of the Singularity University Yet?
We are all familiar with Stanford University (1891) and UC Berkeley (1868), the famous and old Tech universities in Silicon Valley. During the tech bubble, a new comer was founded in 1997, Silicon Valley University. But they are all traditional universities! I mean they all have 4–5 years undergraduate programs and 1–3 years graduate programs following the global educational standards.
As expected from that part of the world, were people are always working on disruptive technologies, there has to be people out there working on disruptive educational systems. This is what the Singularity University is all about.
Singularity University is not a traditional 4-year accredited university. I was lucky to meet its founders in Palo Alto last July, and they said that because of the exponential growth in science and technology, by the time you get your tradition 4-year degree in BioTech or Neural Networks, you’re already out of date!!! So they have created special programs to supplement traditional educational institutions with exponential thinking courses.
They bring together the top thinkers of the world in the fastest moving technologies (AI, Robotics, Medicine, Computing, Energy, Biotech and Nanotech) and they think about how to scale and leverage the accelerations of these technologies to address and solve the biggest problems and challenges of the world.
They discuss how technological innovation will transform the world over the next 3–20 years. They identify and explore exponential trends as well as their potential implications and opportunities, and how the world will move mush faster than we can ever imagine from now on, and how will this affect industries roadmaps.
Singularity University offers a 10-week summer course program ($25K with opportunities for full/partial scholarships) for graduate and post-graduate students conducted once a year in June-August (only 80 students every year), and 7-day executive program ($12K) for senior corporate executives and senior government leaders conducted three times a year (only 40 executives every time).
Here is a link for SU YouTube Channel that shows some of their lectures and some interviews they had with top thinkers of the world. We can’t really thank them enough for sharing these videos for free with all of us.
